A bicycle for Jinnat

When schools start again, cycling will take place. For the first time in her life.
So now first learn to ride a bike!!! So that when school starts she can cycle to school with sufficient confidence.

Jinnat went to the Literacy India school but is now moving on to the St. Soldier School. This school is much further from her home. She can no longer do that on foot. There is also no school bus from her area to the St. Soldier School. And so there was only 1 solution: a bicycle. Jinnat is very happy with her bike, but also finds it very exciting. You can see her thinking in the photo… 😉 The bike is even still in foil…

Jinnat’s family is beyond poor. Only the father had work as a day laborer. But due to the coronavirus, work was no longer allowed at all. And for day laborers that means: no money.

Birth certificate

Transport solved. The next hurdle to overcome is a birth certificate!
She doesn’t have that. And unfortunately she is not alone. There are more girls who attend St Soldier School and do not yet have a birth certificate. Without a birth certificate you do not officially exist and therefore you cannot take an exam.

Fortunately, they can be registered in advance and can hand in their birth certificate later.
Such a certificate must be requested by the father (or eldest brother if there is no longer a father) in the village where the father comes from. It could be that the family comes from Bihar or Madhya Pradesh.

That costs time and money. Not only does applying for and having a document drawn up take time, but also the journey to the village.

That money is usually not there. Care for girls also helps with this. Those are the “extras. That is why we are so happy with extra donations and why we sometimes hold special promotions.
